Children are natural explorers. They have few inhibitions or fears when tackling new technologies.
My name is Darryl Reiter. I am the President and founder of Children’s Technology Workshop. The first years of my career I spent as an elementary school teacher and Department Head in both Science and Computer Science. I was fully aware of the often-limited science and technology curriculum in traditional schooling. So when I left teaching in 1997, I decided to start a company that would teach children how to apply technology and give them lifelong learning skills. I began by teaching children how to build and program robots for projects about Mars. Then I added to the curriculum introducing engineering, animation, graphic design and other disciplines until I found myself running programs at schools, as camps, and at birthday parties and special events. Through this growth I remained focused on empowering children, through the use of computer and other technologies, to stretch their imaginations far beyond textbooks and teacher presentations. And I believe today that we are inspiring this young generation, through our curriculum, to become the inventors and creators of new ideas in the 21st century.
Technology learning in day camps, in after-school Workshops, as supplementary education for in-school curriculum, and through birthday parties and special activities, represents one of the fastest growing segments of today’s multi-billion dollar “after-school” education market. At Children’s Technology Workshop we are leading the way by applying constructivist learning techniques to allow children to imagine, hypothesize, evaluate, invent, explore, create and learn. When we started, we put together a small team of dedicated staff who have continued to demonstrate their commitment to our success. We developed operational and curriculum training skills which we now are sharing through our franchise program in North America and around the world.
For those of you who are interested in our franchise, consider yourself a kid and start exploring this section of our website where you will learn the reason for the existence of Children’s Technology Workshop, and begin to understand the powerful methodology that underlies our curriculum. Have fun while you learn, and let us know what you think.
Sincerely,
Darryl Reiter
